Oscar Chang, PhD.
Director and Co-Founder of MIND – Research Group

Our current research deals with designing Neural Self-taught Agents, computer programs capable of exploring and learning new solutions by themselves through a combination of artificial neural nets, gradient descent and reinforcement learning algorithms. In this line of work, we have developed virtual robots with many mechanical joints, muscles and sensors controlled by self-taught agents that explore and learn by its own complex mechanical wave motions and intelligent mass displacements in multifactorial environments that combine energy consumption, speediness of lifting and robot equilibrium. In our latest research we prove that these spirited robots are quite useful in the simulation of protein folding, opening a new dynamic AI method to study protein synthesis and CORONAVIRUS control. Recently we constructed a wise up visual robot driven by a self-taught agent that learn by its own effort to play high level Tic-Tac-Toe, outsmarting human contenders in physical board games.

I received my bachelor degree in Information Technology (Yachay Tech). My degree project «Credit Card Fraud Detector using Artificial Intelligence» was the motivation to dedicate myself to research. My strongest knowledge being the field of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning. I have worked on projects in INEEL-Mexico, Ecuador and Universidad Catolica del Norte-Chile, in fields such as robotics, urban sustainability, medicine, chemistry, physics, energy and economics. I have developed social projects being Winner Top 10 HackTech COVID-IEEE SIGHT and I have participated in the regional – Hult Prize Foundation. Currently, I am studying a master’s program in Artificial Intelligence at the Polytechnic University of Madrid (Spain).

His major research interests cover practically all aspects of peptide synthetic methodology as well as synthesis of peptides and small molecules with therapeutic activities (cancer and infectious diseases). Lastly, he was working in nanotechnology, mainly focused to drug delivery. He has published more than 950 scientific articles and graduated more than 70 Ph.D. students.

Rosario Cestau, MBA.
Advisory Board of MIND – Research Group

Rosario Cestau is an executive biopharmaceutical consultant, bringing over 15 years of development and commercialization experience in biotechnology and pharmaceuticals, most recently at Aegerion Pharmaceuticals Inc. As its General Manager, Argentina, Rosario lead all aspects of the startup at Aegerion, including the process of registration through launch for Juxtapid, the company’s lead product in the rare disease space, with focus on technical and commercial aspects, including regulatory filings, reimbursement dossier preparation and pricing submissions. Prior to this position, Rosario served as Specialty Therapies Regional Director, LATAM, at Sanofi Pharmaceuticals, driving the Genzyme portfolio integration across the region. Before both Argentina-based roles, Rosario spent 10 years in the United States, holding various research, medical and commercial positions at the Brigham & Women’s hospital, Vertex Pharmaceuticals, Biogen and Genzyme. She is also a former member of the Massachusetts Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO), Harvard Biotech Club and Committee Member, WIS (Women In Science), Boston Chapter, HBA (Healthcare Businesswomen Association). Rosario enjoys volunteering and mentoring students, having served as Community Lab volunteer & student mentor at Biogen, and more recently, supporting entrepreneurial efforts at WISE (Women in STEM- Science, Technology, Engineering & Math) LATAM, a program hosted by IAE University in Argentina and supported by the International Development Bank (IDB). She is also a Scientific Advisor at IncuBAte, a government agency under the Secretary of Economics & Production in Argentina. A native of Uruguay, Rosario holds a BSc in Biology, Genetics specialization, from UDELAR, Montevideo, Uruguay and an MBA from Questrom School of Business at Boston University.

Antonio Diaz Barrios, PhD.

Currently works at the Chemistry and Engineering School, University of Yachay Ecuador. Antonio carried academic research in polymer science which later became commercial technologies in Ziegler-Natta polyolefin catalyst and vinyl acrylic polymer for use in adhesives and architectural coatings. He has ample experience in analytical instrumental techniques such as: infrared (FTIR), UV/VIS and NMR spectroscopies, Thermal Analysis (DSC and TGA), DRX, SEM and TEM microscopy, Gel Permeation Chromatography (GPC) and related techniques. His current field of research interest are polymeric gel for controlled liberation of drugs and other active principles, hybrid polymer-nanoparticle compounds for anti-bactericide coatings, high performance nanocomposites, biosensors and polymeric materials and other related materials and interfacial strategies for petroleum production enhancement.
