Iskra Zambrano, Bs.C.
Committee Member of MIND – Research Group

My name is Iskra Zambrano, I am a native of Quinindé and I am currently a graduate of Physics from Yachay Tech University, in the time I studied, I discovered my passion for theoretical physics, especially in the area of condensed matter. At the beginning of 2018 I had the opportunity to carry out a research stay at the UNAM Nanoscience and Nanotechnology Center in the city of Ensenada, in Mexico. During the aforementioned stay, I had the opportunity to study in greater depth everything related to spintronics. Since then I have collaborated on a research project on DNA polarization due to electron transfer through spin-orbit interaction (ISO) tunneling, of which we published an indexed paper and it has been part of my degree project. I am currently part of two other research projects, the first is a study of conductance in oligoacenes and the second on a model of electron-phonon interaction in DNA. Finally, I have been accepted to do a university master’s degree in Nanophysics and Advanced Materials at the Complutense University of Madrid.

Daniela Elizabeth Quiroz Cabascango, Master Student.
Committee Member of MIND – Research Group

I am an undergraduate geology student at Yachay Tech University, and soon an Erasmus Mundus scholarship holder at Université de Lille and Uppsala University for a Master in Paleobiology.
In my earlier career, I had the opportunity to partake in an internship program at the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute (STRI) in Panamá. Here, I worked with Lower Cretaceous plant remains from an Amazon locality of my country. Thanks to this experience, I developed my thesis project which is entitled Paleobotany and Stratigraphy of the Lower Aptian to Middle Albian in the Central Sub-Andean Zone of Ecuador in joint collaboration with STRI. I learned that studying the geobiological processes of ancient life forms, allows us to understand the past, the present ecological crisis and environmental changes, and their future implications. For this sole reason, I am aspiring to become a Ph.D. graduate in paleontology because the only way to prepare ourselves against future climatic changes is by studying how organisms responded to past changes.
